The Quintessence of Tonkin spectacle

If you are drawn to the romance and intrigue of books and movies set there, you will love this very special small-group luxury tour of Vietnam.

Not only will you be seeing these countries in ways that tourists rarely do, you will be accompanied all the way by a knowledgeable and entertaining host who will add richly to the whole experience.

Taking the movies The Quiet American, Indochine and The Lover as our inspiration, we will visit many of the places where they (and the novels they were based on) were set and often actually filmed.

In this unique adventure, in conjunction with Wendy Wu Tours and Luxury Travel magazine, every step of the way you will be accompanied by author, travel writer, screenwriter, military historian and professor of literature Jimmy Thomson – whose latest novel, Tunnel Vision, is set in Saigon.

You will stay in the most interesting hotels, eat the most authentic and delicious food, travel by seaplane and speedboat while gaining an insight into Vietnam that few visitors get the chance to experience.

On those few occasions when you are left to your own devices for lunch or dinner, Jimmy – a veteran of many tours to this part of the world – will have suggestions to suit any palate and is happy to also  host guests in a casual dining experience.

And while we provide a unique mix of traveller ‘must-see’ attractions and off-the-tourist-track diversions, the whole tour will be solidly pulled together by Wendy Wu Travel, the experts in South-East Asia vacations.

For those who are interested, there will be free optional film nights and “book club” discussions. But be warned! There is a danger to all this. By the time you are due to go home, you will probably want to stay.

With luxury accommodation all the way, top-of-the-line experiences and your own personal expert author, for a strictly limited group of no more than 16 guests, this will cost approximately $8,810 pp (twin share) including international flights.

You can find out more by clicking on this link to the Wendy Wu website where there’s a full itinerary of the proposed tour.
