Mild Rover: Go your own way

Curated tours, cruises, resorts and reviews

Sheraton Grand Mirage, Port Douglas

THE DEAL: Stay at the hotel that transformed Port Douglas for 5 nights from A$2400/room, valued up to A$3,798 a saving of 37%

THE APPEAL: Rovers of a similar vintage to me will remember the 1980s when Christopher Skase was at the height of his powers, opening his glitzy Mirage hotels on the Gold Coast and here. Given his later financial woes, who knew then how ironic that name might be?

The surrounding Mirage Country Club has one of Australia’s best golf courses which weaves its way throughout the resort. It’s a thing of beauty, even though the occasional warning signs about crocodiles didn’t help my chipping.

The proximity to Port Douglas and its restaurants on a par with the best in the Southern Capitals is another plus. Small wonder Luxury Escapes has put together this deal.

Nestled in the tropical landscape of Far North Queensland and just moments from Four Mile Beach, the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Port Douglas is perfectly positioned to discover two UNESCO World Heritage sites – the underwater haven that is the Great Barrier Reef and the serene Daintree Rainforest.

Lounge, sip and stay in absolute luxury, with an escape to this five-star resort set amongst 147 hectares of lush gardens. Cool off in the glittering saltwater pools and indulge in an evening of decadent dining at the hatted Harrisons Restaurant, serving up unique Australian flavours.
