Get in quick for a late run at Antarctic adventure

High summer is usually the most popular time to visit Antarctica on an expedition ship but Australian small ship cruise specialist, Cruise Traveller, is offering a new fly, cruise and stay package that takes adventure seekers to the white continent in late October when the snow is still powdery white, returning birds and penguins are engaged in courtship rituals and the icy waterways are eerily quiet.

The new 15-night ‘Snow, Seals and Penguins’ package from Cruise Traveller will see guests sail on Aurora Expeditions’ purpose-built expedition ship, Greg Mortimer, from Argentina to Antarctica on October 28, 2024, at the very start of the Antarctic cruise season.

The special package comes with free return flights to South America and savings of A$5575 per person for bookings made by April 30, 2024. Seriously, by May Day this offer will melt away like snow on water.

The journey begins in Australia on October 25, 2024, with a free flight from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne to Buenos Aires for a two-night stay and on to Ushuaia for another night and scenic tour before boarding Aurora Expeditions 132-guest expedition ship, Greg Mortimer, named after the renowned Australian mountaineer and explorer who founded Aurora Expeditions in 1991. The purpose-built ship offers sea-level Zodiac launching platforms, two Jacuzzis on the top deck, expansive observation decks, lounges and a gym, with all cabins offering an ocean view and 80 per cent boasting a private balcony.

Aurora Expeditions has won multiple awards including the world’s best expedition cruise line, leading polar expedition operator and is also a global leader in sustainable expedition travel, receiving accreditation in January, 2024, as a Certificied B Corporation, a worldwide standard of social and environmental values and responsibility.

Sailing from Ushuaia on October 28, 2024, Greg Mortimer will be home for 10 nights as the ship sails south to the South Shetland Islands and the Antarctic Peninsula with their snow-capped peaks, dramatic glaciers, rich wildlife, pristine waters and huge icebergs. The journey offers opportunities to explore and hike ashore with nature guides to see seals and penguins, as well as the chance to take the famous polar plunge into the icy sea for a bracing, quick dip to remember.

After returning to Ushuaia, guests will fly back to Buenos Aires for a one-night stay before the flight back to Australia, ending the holiday.
